A 22-year-old BPO employee was allegedly kidnapped and raped on Saturday night by two men who offered her a ride in a mini-bus from a bus stop in south Bengaluru. Senior officers in the Bengaluru Police, however, remained tight-lipped about the incident that was reported on the eve of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s visit to Bengaluru along with PM Modi.
Police sources revealed that the girl was waiting at a Madiwala bus stand, looking for a ride back to her PG accommodation from her workplace, when two men in a tempo traveller offered her a ride.
After boarding the vehicle, the victim was allegedly threatened with a knife and the vehicle driven towards east Bengaluru. She was allegedly raped at an isolated spot near Domlur.
The accused, according to sources, dropped her back at the spot from where was picked up. The victim was rushed to a private hospital for treatment by a friend whom she had contacted. She was discharged on Monday.
Police Commissioner N S Megharikh confirmed that a case was being probed, but did not divulge any details. Rohini Sepat Katoch, the deputy commissioner of police, (south-east) division, also refused to comment on the incident.
Police, however, claimed that CCTV footage of major traffic junctions was being scanned to identify the vehicle and persons involved.
