Because legendary cinematic blockbusters that’ll someday go on to complete 1000 weeks in a row are too mainstream.
Bhai may believe in sticking steadfastly by his ‘commitments’ once he’s made them, but let it be known that he is just as picky about making them in the first place. Here are seven Bollywood blockbusters that Sallu bhai turned down:
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge
For reasons that the human mind isn’t entirely equipped to fathom, Salman Khan turned his back on the legendary role of Raj, literally handing SRK one of his biggest career hits on a plate.
Another rifle through Salman’s recycle bin led Shah Rukh to sink his teeth into another blockbuster. Sigh, and to think people believe there is no love lost between the two.
Chak De! India
SRK fans might want to sit down for this one; the role of the determined coach Kabir Khan was initially written with Salman Khan in mind. After the Dabangg Khan pulled out due to date issues, it was taken up by yours truly who went on to bag several Best Actor awards.
It is apparently rumoured that after reading the script of Ghajini, Aamir himself recommended the makers of the movie to approach Salman Khan as he felt Salman would be a better fit for the role. Little is known about what transpired behind closed doors, but the movie ultimately went on to help Aamir chart box office history.
It is said that every actor who read the script for the movie instantly wanted to take up the role of Max, including Aishwarya Rai, but the role ultimately went to Shah Rukh after Salman cited date problems.
Kal Ho Na Ho
Despite successfully holding his own against SRK and winning over the audience with his portrayal of the jilted fiancé Aman, Salman decided that playing second fiddle to the Baadshah again was below him and the role went to Saif.
Honorary Mention: Farhan Akhtar’s Next
Without meaning to question the credibility of one of cinema’s biggest stars, it is kind of hard to dismiss the suspicion that Salman’s insistence to turn down the multiple scripts that Farhan Akhtar has been offering him might have something to do with the old family feud between Javed Akhtar & Salim Khan.
